All major international IT companies (e.g. Nokia, IBM, Microsoft, Oracle, Motorola, Tellabs, Microcell and Vitesse Semiconductors) have located large R&D activities in Copenhagen.
The largest IT cluster in Denmark is located in
the Copenhagen area. This cluster, where the majority of the
Danish IT workforce is located, is now expanding further as a
result of the region-building process in the Danish/Swedish Øresund
region. Today, the cluster includes both the Copenhagen
area and the southern part of Sweden, and it accounts for more than
100,000 IT employees.
In Copenhagen, all major international IT companies (e.g. Nokia,

Semiconductors) have located large R&D activities in order to
gain a strong foothold in the new Øresund region. As an example,
Nokia has located its largest R&D Centre outside Finland in
Copenhagen.
With approximately 50% share of the Danish IT employment,
Copenhagen shows substantial IT specialisation. Strong core
competencies include software development, telecommunication,
optical communication and semiconductors.
The IT business environment in Copenhagen is highly rated within
the international business community. In a survey conducted in 2001
by PriceWaterhouseCoopers*, Copenhagen ranks at the very top among
seven cities in Northern Europe as the best place to set up an
e-business centre.
