Copenhagen offers numerous leisure and recreational activities. There are many cultural events and most of these activities do not require any Danish language skills. For example, all cinemas show films in the original language instead of dubbing them.

Several major investments have been made in cultural projects, the most interesting being the Museum of Modern Art, the Royal Library, the development of the Navy dockyard (Holmen), the DGI sports centre, the Royal Theatre, and last but not least the new Royal Opera built directly at the waterfront of the inner harbour. Right across from the new Royal Opera, the new Royal theatre will be built – also at the waterfront. These investments and many more have made Copenhagen a culturally rich metropolitan city in Northern Europe.

The greater Copenhagen region has 35 golf courses, each with its own distinctive character, design and degree difficulty ranging from 9 to 27 holes. Currently, a new state-of-the-art golf course is on the drawing table. The new course, "Royal Copenhagen Golf Center", will be placed only a few kilometers from the city centre. The course is expected to open by 2009.

Moreover, the region offers a large number of world-class museums and galleries showing a great variety of contemporary and classic art exhibitions. Some of the most popular museums are Statens Museum for Kunst (The National Gallery), Arken (Museum of Modern Art) and Louisiana (The Modern Art Gallery).
