Government initiated capital sources

Several government initiated funding possibilities exist. Below, you will find a short description of the most important.

More information can be found in the factsheet “Venture capital” which can be downloaded here

Vaekstfonden (The Danish Investment Fund)

Vaekstfonden is a state backed investment company operating independently in the capital market with an investment capital of DKK 2 billion. The fund facilitates the supply of venture capital in terms of start-up equity and high-risk loans, and provides financing on commercial terms. The overall aim of the fund is to invest in high-risk projects where the ordinary capital market hesitates to participate. Vaekstfonden is organized around five business areas: Growth capital, Partner capital, Funds of funds, Need driven ventures and Vækstkaution (Loan guarantee)

For more information about the types of investments offered by Vaekstfonden please see separate fact sheet "Venture Capital" or go to www.vf.dk.

EUREKA

Danish companies participating in EUREKA-projects can apply for venture capital at Vaekstfonden. EUREKA-projects are cross-border collaborations between companies in EU countries or other EUREKA countries including Iceland, Norway, Russia and Turkey. EUREKA-projects must be aimed at developing high-tech products; processes, systems or services and involve companies from at least two different EU or EUREKA participating countries. The loans are provided with regards to Vaekstfondens’s normal conditions and the EUREKA-status is not a guaranty for attaining a loan. For more information please go to www.vf.dk or visit The Danish Agency for Science Technology and Innovation website at www.fist.dk

Pre-seed Capital through Incubators

Incubators administer pre-seed capital through a programme initiated by the Ministry of Science and Technology. The incubators have different focus areas and are placed in innovative environments close to universities. They can provide offices, technical equipment and laboratory facilities for entrepreneurs.

The publicly supported incubators in the Copenhagen area are CAT-Symbion, Teknologisk Innovation, and DTU Innovation A/S.
