Why maintain a range of parallel administrative functions in
four different countries, when you can gather them in one – and at
the same time increase service level, efficiency and transparency.
This was the philosophy behind Eli Lilly’s decision to establish a
Shared Service Centre in Copenhagen. Since the 1st of February
2002, 12 employees have been in charge of core administrative
functions for the Eli Lilly subsidiaries in the Nordic
countries.
Finance Director Ole Nygaard Pedersen explains the SSC
philosophy and the choice of Copenhagen:
–It was natural to choose Denmark, where we were sure to find
qualified staff. In the previous country-based organisation the
size of the individual offices did not justify a full
administration. Today, we have created an organisation which can
deal with even larger volumes without having to recruit more staff.
Our primary aim was not cost reduction; however, we were striving
for increased value-adding, for instance being able to attract
better qualified staff with more specialist expertise.
