Danish fashion continues to have golden times on the export markets. Clothing export has increased by 15 per cent last year, show figures from Statistics Denmark.

Danish fashion is still selling – if not so in Denmark at least abroad. Whereas clothing sales are decreasing on the domestic market export of Danish clothes is still speeding ahead.

The latest figures from Statistics Denmark show that export of clothes increased by 15 per cent to EUR 300 million last April compared with the same period last year, writes Berlingske Tidende.

According to an analysis published by the industry association Danish Textile & Clothing Industries in connection with Copenhagen fashion week the companies have increased growth rates on all the major markets, but especially Russia and Eastern Europe help increasing growth rates to approximately 70 per cent. The major markets are Germany, Sweden, Norway, Holland and Finland.

Last year the clothing export totaled approximately EUR 3.2 billion and it is more than double the export in just ten years.

“This is the result of good design and good quality. Add to this that the fashion week is a very good display window,” says trade counselor Søren Gregers Jensen of Danish Textile & Clothing Industries.

Looking at a number of years Bestseller as the major fashion company has succeeded best. In five years sales increased by 105 per cent to over EUR 1½ billion last year.
