Two Øresund links needed
01-08-2008

Location and infrastructure:

At the latest in 2028 Øresund link number two will be launched, says Danish traffic researcher.

The train traffic on the Øresund bridge is already at the present time so congested that within a short period it will be necessary to build another fixed link across Øresund.

This is the opinion of the traffic experts according to Børsen Business Daily. The experts also emphasize that a tunnel under the Sound from Helsingør to Helsingborg – which a Swedish report recently suggested – would be the most natural solution.

“In the course of a few years another connection across Øresund will be required. Here the most natural solution will be a tunnel connection between Helsingør and Helsingborg. I think that the question of another link will seriously come up when the Femern bridge has been finished,” says Alex Landex, who is traffic researcher at DTU Transport, to the business journal.

According to the plan Femern bridge is to be finished in 2018. Alex Landex believes that a new Øresund tunnel may well be on the drawing board immediately after and will be a reality in approximately 20 years.
