UN to consolidate its Danish activities
01-05-2008
Companies:
Within the next few years, the United Nations' organisations in Denmark will be concentrated at one location in Copenhagen. Newly built offices are to be completed by 2012 in a building in the Port of Copenhagen.
The announcement comes in a newsletter from Arealudviklingsselskabet I/S, which is responsible for development of the new urban region of Ørestad and the Port of Copenhagen.
The company recently presented a package solution for the area around Langelinie and Marmormolen, which occupy a prime position in the centre of the Port of Copenhagen.
In addition to the UN's 45,000 m² site, which will form a natural focal point for the Marmormolen quarter, on completion in 2012 the area will consist of private housing, a hotel and business premises featuring spectacular architecture. The new quarter will be convenient for public transport and will have free access to the waterfront via a 65 m high pedestrian bridge.
The UN, the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Copenhagen Municipality, Arealudviklingsselskabet I/S (which owns the site at Marmormolen) and ATP (which owns the site at the end of Langelinie) all agree on the development plans for the area and are looking forward to realising them. The initial phase of the project has been designed by the firm of architects 3 X Nielsen and in 2009 the final plans for the new quarter will be presented.
