Presently approximately 15,000 litre wines are produced annually in Denmark of which the main part is red wine. The Danish wines belong at the expensive end.
Denmark officially became a wine country in 2000 but not until last year did the EU upgrade the Danish wines to so-called regional table wines and during the first few years there were only few not to say no expectations for the Danish wine production.
However, now things are moving forward, writes Jylland-Posten. In one year production has been six fold and today there are 23 commercial wine growers in Denmark with grapes on altogether 19 ha land.
The progress means that today 15,000 litre Danish wines are produced annually and 90 per cent of this is red wine.
According to Jyllands-Posten the wine critics characterise Danish wines as “fresh, delicious and light”, and prices are typically from DKK 200-500.00.
