Carlsberg’s ”Our City” development project – more Christiania than Ørestad
07-03-2008
Property and construction:
Carlsberg’s “Our City” development project will see young and old, rich and poor, white-collar workers and bohemians living in Our City at the huge Carlsberg site straddling the Copenhagen suburbs of Valby and Vesterbro.
With a greater leaning towards what it describes as “Christiania characteristics” (oblique and creative), Carlsberg foresees that the project will engender dynamism and consequently a better price per square metre when the project’s housing units are put on the market.
Under the slogan “A hole in the fence”, Carlsberg will be as open as possible with information about the creation of Our City (derived from the Carlsberg slogan “Our beer”).
Now the latest model of Our City has been made public.
Our City will be characterised by 6 tall, slim towers of up to 120 metres each with an open square at the foot of each tower and three shorter towers of up to 50 metres each.
The aim is that Our City will be CO2 neutral and a social and cultural melting pot, with a mix of expensive and not so expensive housing inspired by Copenhagen’s Christianshavn quarter. The new buildings will also harmonise with the present historic and preserved buildings on the Carlsberg property.
