Copenhagen’s landmark Hotel d’Angleterre sold to Icelanders
24-09-2007
Companies:
Icelanders have bought the d'Angleterre hotel group for EUR 100 million and aim to establish more d'Angleterre hotels.
Denmark's finest hotel has been sold to Icelandic investment company Nordic Partners for approximately EUR 100 million. And the new owners find the name so strong a brand that it is to be used for other hotels in Denmark and abroad, writes Danish daily Berlingske Business.
According to the new owners, the five-star hotel at one of Copenhagen's most attractive addresses has a very strong brand and this was precisely what they were looking for. The deal includes two more hotels and a restaurant in Copenhagen's Town Hall Square.
Nordic Partners has bought the Remmen Hotels group, which in addition to Hotel d'Angleterre includes Hotel Kong Frederik, Hotel Front (formerly Sofie Amalie Hotel) and Restaurant Copenhagen Corner.
The enterprising Icelanders would like to establish another hotel d'Angleterre in Denmark and are considering replicating the same concept and style internationally.
The latest annual report from Remmen Hotels shows annual turnover at DKK 163 million and profit after tax of DKK 2.9 million. Nordic Partners has not revealed the price it paid but Lorenz Jørgensen, who sold the Plaza Hotel Group last year, estimates the price to be about DKK 700 million.
